Coinage...

The fourth of July was very uneventful for my family and me. We cooked out on Sunday for dinner for our little get-together and we didn’t do anything today. I hope everyone had a safe and fun filled holiday.

My dad and I were talking over the weekend about coins lying around the house. Dad said that he had collected over $40 in change over the last week. It made me think of my coin jar I have in the laundry room as I put all excess change from pockets in the jar. I hadn’t counted the money in a while so I decided to count it today. I have $201 in dimes, nickels and quarters! I didn’t even count the pennies as the bank can use their little counter for that. However, I am in shock at the amount of coins that were here. Do you all have coins that need to be counted?

When I stopped drinking and become a full tee-totaller, i poured a HUGE bottle of Jack Daniels down the sink and used the bottle to hold my change. THis was about 3 years ago...

in decemember of last year, I took it to one of those Coinstar machines and had managed to store about 356 in quarters and an additional 175 in nickles, dimes and pennies.

I was quite proud of myself.

Remind me to start picking your pockets. I get excited when I get $30 in the change jar. We just emptied ours into a ziploc bag for our drive to & from Niagara Falls. Boo for tolls.

I'm not disiplined enough to keep up with a coin jar. I always use the coinage in my wallet.

DH has a jar that he throws all his change and $1 bills into and rolls it up when it's full. Each time he gets about $70.

Boo, it'll be interesting to see how much your stash comes out to. You're going to need a wagon to lug all that coinage into the bank LOL.

We have a huge jar (much like the one Tony describes) and it's almost full now. I have *no* idea what to expect is in it, but I might just take it out and have the kids count it, now that you've put the thought in my head.

*decides to save it as punishment for the kids*

I think the kids will love counting the money, MM. Get them the papers so they can put the coins into the paper rolls. Will you let them keep the money?

We used to have lots of change, but over the course of the past year or so, Nutzgirl has seemed to take it all in little bits. Butthead, that kid.

I have about $70 in coins at my house. I just need to take them to the bank.

Roomie keeps throwing pennies in the garbage. I finally told him that I am not too proud to take the pennies...

Years ago, my Dad started to save his coins. He keeps them in a jar and then gives it to me for my birthday. He started doing this when I was a teen and he had no clue what to buy me. So he decided money was the way to go. And he thought it would be fun to do it in his year's extra change. It usually ends up around the $200 range.
Michelle and I keep a jar of change in the kitchen. My guess is that it has around $200-$300 in it. We never turn it in though. We just use it for public transit money or whatever. It's always just sitting there.

We safe all year and use our change ever year for vacation. We usually have enough to at least pay for our hotel.
